You've spent hours decorating the house, inside and out. The Christmas tree looks stunning, and your home is impeccably cleaned (okay, this is the one that I don't usually accomplish – but it's better than it usually looks!). You've prepared traditional dishes and experimented with new and different holiday treats and nibbles. What's left? The beverages, of course!
No holiday party is complete without a selection of drinks. Of course you probably have some wine, beer, spirits, and mixers. But why not jazz things up with some seasonal cocktails? Holiday drinks can be fun and festive, and your guests are sure to enjoy indulging in a themed cocktail or two. Just make sure to watch each guest to ensure no one tries to drive home if they've enjoyed one too many.
Entertaining a crowd? Figure out how many appetizers you'll need!
This first cocktail recipe comes from the new Ocean Spray booklet, which I picked up at the grocery store this past weekend. It's full of great recipes for holiday treats, so if you can find one I highly recommend giving it a look. There are coupons in there, too! The other recipes come from friends, family, and weathered magazine clippings. Each recipe makes one serving, unless otherwise noted. Cheers!
Cranberry Snowdrift (from Ocean Spray)
For each cocktail you will need:
Combine ingredients with ice in a cocktail mixer. Shake and strain into a martini glass rimmed with granulated sugar. To garnish, thread whole cranberries onto a cocktail pick; dip in water and roll in decorator's sugar to coat evenly. Perch the pick in the glass, and top the cocktail with shaved dark chocolate.
Combine ingredients and serve in a red wine glass.
Mix Advocaat and ginger ale in a highball glass filed with ice. Garnish with a stemmed maraschino cherry.
Christmas Sour (makes two servings)
Mix ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker. Shake well and strain over ice in highball glasses. Garnish with thinly sliced lemon on the rim of the glass, or threaded onto a cocktail pick.
Rim a martini glass with crushed candy canes. Mix vodka, schnapps, and club soda with ice in a cocktail shaker; strain into prepared glass.
