Spring brings us the promise of fresh food - veggies especially. One of the most popular things to serve at a party is a plate of fresh vegetables with assorted dips for dunking. Veggies add color to any table, and are especially welcome by any guests who may be watching their diet.
These are two of my favorite dips, and both are great with fresh vegetables. Grandma's Curry Dip is also really good with potato chips and even pretzels, while the Salsa Dip is a perfect match for crispy tortilla chips or corn chips. Both are versatile, adjustable, and almost sinfully easy to make. You can use low-fat or non-fat sour cream and mayonnaise if you prefer.
My grandmother used to make this dip every Sunday when we went to visit and stay for dinner. We'd munch on it (with veggies and chips of course!) while we played cards or board games in the kitchen.
In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise and sour cream. Add curry powder, about 1/4 teaspoon at a time, mixing well, until desired flavor is reached. Makes about 1 cup.
This dip is so easy, and so versatile. You can add all kinds of things like chopped olives, shredded cheddar cheese, diced peppers or onions, or your favorite hot sauce to kick up the heat. Use whatever kind of salsa you like best.
Mix all ingredients in a small bowl. Serve immediately with chopped fresh vegetables, and tortilla or corn chips. Makes just over 1 cup.
