Fireworks Themed Recipes that Blast with Flavor

These easy July 4th party recipes are sure to make a hit.

Fourth of July is notorious not only for fireworks but also daytime festivities of food and drink. These edible goodies of both incredible flavor and patriotic coloring will wow your visitors, and are incredibly simple to prepare.

Fireworks Punch

This punch produces both a visual and a flavor explosion. Be sure to have adult supervision on hand for this crackling drink.

Items Needed:

  • Sprite or other clear soda, one liter size
  • Kiwi-strawberry juice
  • Blue Pop Rocks
  • Cups

Directions:

  1. Place pitchers of soda and juice on a table next to the cups. Set the packets of Pop Rocks in a bowl beside these other items.
  2. Fill the cups with soda and juice mixture as needed.
  3. Open and dump Pop Rocks into the drink for a fizzy surprise.

Flag Dessert Buffet

Both children and adults love the freedom of choosing their own dessert toppings. Place the cupcakes on a tray in the center of the table and situate the toppings in bowls around the cupcakes.

Items Needed:

  • White cupcakes, unfrosted
  • White frosting
  • Blue Jelly Belly jelly beans or blue fruit snacks
  • Red licorice ropes, cut into two-inch pieces
  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Strawberries, sliced
  • Blueberries
  • White sprinkles
  • Whipped cream

Directions:

  1. Place one cupcake in a bowl.
  2. Frost cupcake with white frosting as desired.
  3. Place one scoop of vanilla ice cream next to cupcake.
  4. Allow guests to dress cupcakes and ice cream with toppings of choice.

Sparkler Skewers

These recipes are simple enough for children to put together yet so delicious that everyone will enjoy eating them.

Items Needed:

  • Wooden skewers
  • Strawberries, halved
  • Blueberries, large sized
  • Pear chunks
  • Sprite
  • Cantaloupe, halved
  • Bowl of whipped topping or whipping cream

Directions:

  1. Place pear chunks into a bowl and cover with Sprite. This will prevent them from browning.
  2. Allow pears to soak while preparing other fruit.
  3. Start creating the skewers using a strawberry.
  4. Drain pears and place one chunk following the strawberry.
  5. Follow with a large blueberry.
  6. Add additional fruit until the skewer is full, placing them in red, white, and blue order.
  7. Place cut cantaloupe half into bowl cut side down.
  8. Push the end of each skewer into the melon until they are standing upright.
  9. Place on table next to bowl of whipping cream or whipped topping.

In addition to these recipes, set out bowls of assorted red, white, and blue candies separated in miniature candy dishes. Fitting July 4th candy options include Zotz, Whistle Pops, USA Mints, and Fizzies Candy Drink Tablets, red licorice, or even Jelly Bellys.

Alternately, create goody bags filled with these unusual candies or as an added touch deliver the goodies in firecracker shaped containers for guests to take home when the party is done.
