Back to School Party Desserts

Desserts for a Back to School Party should be simple and fun.

I got an e-mail from a mom who said that she likes to hold her children's Back to School parties the weekend after school starts, so that the entire class can be invited and any new children will feel welcomed. What a terrific idea!

I had a couple of ideas for desserts for these parties. For something really easy, bake or buy some cookies and then decorate them by piping letters and numbers on the tops with icing. For older kids you could use math symbols too.

If you prefer to go the cake route, keep it simple with the name of the school and the grade written on top. For example, "Dalewood School, Grade Five". A ruler motif around the edges is a fun addition too.

Last year I made a rectangular cake, and shaped one side like the front of a school bus. I used the cake scraps to fashion two semi-circles and attached them to the bottom with icing to create wheels. Decorating was a snap with licorice strings. You could even use teddy bear cookies to put passengers on the bus.

Aren't school days fun?
