Planning a holiday party this year? The more you can prepare in advance, the better. Tuck prepared foods into the fridge or freezer, and you'll have lots more time to set up for the party and enjoy it once the festivities begin. Here are some tips to help you prepare.
- Chop up veggies the night before the party, and store them in the refrigerator.
- Prepare garnishes for appetizer platters or other foods (including cocktails!) ahead of time.
- Cold dips and spreads can be made several days in advance.
- Many appetizers, like cheese balls or chicken skewers, actually taste better if they've been made in advance and refrigerated overnight. Plan on serving several of these types of appetizers.
- Lots of appetizers and other dishes can be made weeks in advance and frozen. Choose some of these foods to make the days leading up to the party less hectic.
- Stock your bar and pick up other beverages several days before the party to avoid last-minute trips to the store.
- Make lots of lists and check things off after they've been purchased, prepared, and completed. Nothing feels better than having a long list completely checked off!
- If someone offers to bring food or beverages, let them! You'll have less to do, and they'll feel good about providing a dish for the party.
Remember that holiday parties, even when hosted by you, are meant to be enjoyed. Don't spend all of your time in the kitchen or behind the bar - get out there and socialize!
