Take your basic cranberry sauce and turn it into a yummy topping for a variety of sweet treats.

It happens every year - I'm stuck with about a cup of cranberry sauce long after the remains of the turkey is gone. It's fun to use up though, by transforming it into a sweet sauce with a few simple additions.

Take about a cup of cranberry sauce, either homemade or canned, and heat it up in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Add a few tablespoons of maple syrup and two teaspoons of vanilla extract. You can also add grated orange peel, dried fruit like raisins or blueberries, or chopped nuts.

Serve your warm cranberry sauce over thick, fluffy waffles and add a touch of whipped cream for a unique and delicious brunch dish. Or spoon it over vanilla ice cream and make cranberry sundaes. It also tastes great spread on top of a plain cheesecake.
